Chapter 047 – From Thin Air

Translator: Helliot

Their distance grew closer and closer.

As if it had run off the wrong path, the light, which should have been shooting forward with hatred borne inside its beam, had been twisted away by a mirror placed by someone, no longer to return to its original trajectory.

His face gradually grew closer.

Gu Ze stared at his trembling lashes. He wanted to run away, but he forced himself to keep still. He could not stop himself from reaching out and pressing his calloused hand onto Meng Fu’s face.

“Mr. Gu?” The man spoke in a trembling voice.

Very soon, as if something inside him had given up, his body relaxed. Following Gu Ze’s instructions, he looked up at him, his eyes clearly hollow.

He seemed to be looking at Gu Ze, yet also nothing at all.

A strange sense of loss gathering inside him, Gu Ze ordered softly, “Close your eyes.”

Meng Fu shut his eyes obediently. What was Gu Ze trying to get him to do? What did he want to do? Will he wring his neck like he did in the past?

Hasn’t he already died once?

So why should he care?

After waiting a long time, Meng Fu’s eyes flung open in horror.

Gu Ze…Gu Ze was actually kissing him! His lips were clearly pressed up against his own!

He subconsciously tried to push the man away, but he winced when he accidentally rubbed against the wound on his wrist and frowned.

“Mr. Gu…?” His eyes were filled with confusion.

Gu Ze took two steps back to look at Meng Fu, no longer teasing or mocking in his expressions. He suddenly turned around and left the room.

A breeze blew into the room, drawing up pages of the book in a light flutter.

Flapping irregularly like the beating of his restless heart.

Meng Fu leaned on the bookshelf behind him. Gu Ze had kissed him out of nowhere, and left just as mysteriously as he came. He was completely flabbergasted, and it was as if there were a big fog covering his eyes. He knew he was a man with no future.

It took so much just to calm himself down.

But the one who left suddenly returned.

Gu Ze watched him with still eyes, lips moving faintly. Gu Ze, what are you hesitating about, what is there to hesitate about? “Meng Fu, I want to kiss you,” he asserted.

“What?!”

“Don’t resist, Meng Fu.”

By the time he finished speaking, his lips had already pressed against his.

He was asked not to resist him. He had been asked not to resist him when he took his body, because he deserved it. Even now, he was not allowed to resist. Xie Zhenzhen told him in the past that kissing was what lovers do, so that was why he kissed Xie Zhenzhen.

Gu Ze did not love him—he hated him, and yet he was kissing him, too.

It seems her words had been incorrect.

He only struggled a little bit before the pain from his wrist assaulted his senses. He looked straight into Gu Ze’s eyes. There was something that was neither taunting nor mockery. It was something he could not read.

He felt sick, but he still forced himself to accept Gu Ze’s kiss.

Strangely enough, even a kiss from someone like Gu Ze felt warm.

The moment their lips touched, something was expanding infinitely inside of his heart. Despite just a warm yet pervasive touch, this had grown to be far from enough. Gu Ze knew very well that he wanted more.

Lips rubbing lightly against Meng Fu’s slightly cool lips, he licked at them with his tongue. Even though those lips were not as warm as a woman’s, even though they were pale and bloodless…

To him, it was sweet as candy.

It was not enough. Far from enough.

He wrapped his arms around his waist and brought him closer to his own as he tried in vain to pry open Meng Fu’s teeth with his tongue.

Those calm eyes finally showed a different reaction, one of surprise or terror

Gu Ze backed away slightly. “Open your mouth.”

“Why, Mr. Gu?”

He received no answer, but he continued to ask.

“I…I don’t understand. I don’t understand any of this.” His eyes were cast down to avoid Gu Ze’s gaze.

Gu Ze’s eyes felt almost searing.

“It’s fine if you don’t.”

After a pause, he bit down on his lower lip. He found it difficult to open his mouth, but he forced himself to speak. “Should I undress?”

When he heard that, Gu Ze showed an odd smile before backing away from him. His usual sardonic smile crept up his face, but beneath that was a sadness he had never shown before.

He gritted his teeth. “No.”

Meng Fu was silent. His toe was curling even more than before, and he kept his eyes down without speaking a word.

Gu Ze left abruptly.

Meng Fu remained standing in place without moving, silently counting inside of his heart, thinking that Gu Ze would turn back again. 1, 2, 3, 4…97, 98, 99, 100.

Fortunately, he did not turn back.

His feet were starting to grow numb so he took a seat, which helped to ease the tingling sensation. He returned Penal Law Class to its place on the bookshelf.

Then, picking up his own notebook, he left the study.

Sitting on the edge of Meng Yi’s bed, he tucked in his covers before returning to his own room.

In the dark, he touched the gauze bandages wrapped around his wrist. He was still alive and life had to go on. He was alive, therefore, he had to take good care of Xiao Yi.

There were three days left for him to pay his rent.

Gu Ze drove his car back to the office. He sneered at himself in the car, and seemingly losing his grip on his emotions, he pounded his fist on his steering wheel. Meng Fu’s emotionless words rang in his mind. “Should I undress?”

That’s right, that was the kind of relationship they were in.

He was just a man repaying a debt to him with his body.

“Auntie Zhang, could I ask you a question?” He approached the maid.

“What is it, Mr. Meng?”

“When will Mr. Gu return?”

He wanted to go home. He had to go and pay the rent. He knew that there was no way he would be staying here forever. At the very least, he should ask Gu Ze about leaving the house.

Maybe…What if there was that possibility?

He should have asked yesterday, but he had forgotten due to the situation they were in.

“I’m sorry, I’m not too sure about that. Mr. Gu does not follow a set schedule.”

“Ah, I see. Thank you.”

He took his seat back on the sofa, feeling slightly cold. Meng Yi leaned over and rested his head on his shoulder, asking in a childish tone, “Meng-Meng, I’m so bored. Let’s go outside.”

“Be obedient, Xiao Yi. We can only stay inside this house right now. We’ll leave soon.”

“Really? When?”

When…? He had no idea either. “Three days…We’ll leave in three days,” he promised.

How could he forget? Xiao Yi was just a child, and it was in a child’s nature to play. Children can’t be locked in a house all the time. Whatever happens to him does not matter, but not Xiao Yi.

“Meng-Meng, I don’t want to watch TV anymore. I miss Big Brother Ye Yan. The number doesn’t work anymore, nobody picks up. Meng-Meng, let’s go home.” Meng Yi put his arms around Meng Fu in a hug.
