Chapter 102 – Throwing Up

Maybe it was because everything happened so suddenly, or maybe it was because Zuo Feng believed, from the bottom of his heart, that Di Lin would be fine. But he never thought Di Lin would have a last bit of lucidity before the end and definitely did not think that Di Lin would end up dying so soon.

When he couldn’t wake Di Lin after countless tries, he realized that Di Lin had really left. Di Lin would never flirt with him shamelessly like he did before, or change from human form to tree form, and then from tree form back to a naked human without a care for propriety in front of him.

The only thing that he left behind was a … dry to the touch, lifeless piece of withered wood.

It seemed like a decorative art piece. At first glance, nobody would even think that the “art” had once been adorable to him, had once blinked at him, had even healed him.

“How did this happen?” After god knows how long, Zuo Feng only asked this question hoarsely. He seemed to be asking the people around him, or maybe he was just asking himself. As long as the Offspring Tree would grow faster and cure Di Lin, then he wouldn’t mind doing things he normally didn’t do. But Di Lin didn’t even give him this chance.

“That dagger must have the blood of a Gold Fruit Tree clan child on it. Emperor Suron drank that blood, so he’s afraid of strong light. We didn’t think that Uncle would be like that since he only touched the blood.” Xiao Lingyu looked at the withered wood in Zuo Feng’s fist and didn’t know what else to say. The guy had fallen into a trap set by his evil first love and been in pain for so many years. Now that he finally had the chance at a fresh start, it came to this.

“I’d like to be by myself. Please see yourselves out.” With that, Zuo Feng fell on the bed. He heard the sound of the door closing and then put the little piece of withered wood onto his face.

Di Lin’s unique fragrance still seemed to cling to it, but there will never be anyone to throw modesty to the wind and ask him, Do I smell nice?

Zuo Feng’s lips curved at the recollection of how flirty Di Lin had been when he asked that question, but the tear stain on his pillow became more and more obvious…

The air in the Zuo family home was so tense it was scary. But in reality, Zuo Feng didn’t get hysterical like he did when he lost his first love. He also didn’t get angry. He just seemed extremely calm.

But that was even scarier.

When Lele had died, Zuo Feng had seemed to go so crazy it was as if he could destroy the world in the next second. At that time, Zuo Zhihuan had even said — he just needs to vent it out; time will make everything fade, even love.

But this time, as much as Zuo Feng wanted to say something, he didn’t have a reason to anymore. Because his son had hidden every trace of the pain that seemed to erode his soul away.

They didn’t know if it was because Zuo Feng was older and more mature or whether the pain was too great to express.

Zuo Feng replanted the withered little tree person inside the flower pot. He’d pour some of Di Lin’s favorite nutrient liquid into the pot every day. He even put the flower pot on his bedside table so that he’d see Di Lin first every morning he wakes up.

The little piece of withered wood that Di Lin left behind didn’t seem to rot. Though it got exposed to nutrient liquid many times, it still stayed dry, which inadvertently gave Zuo Feng a little bit of hope.

He kept believing that Di Lin wouldn’t just leave him like this. That person wanted nothing more than to hang on him all day long. How could he just leave like that?

Right now, what had him most worried was that the leaves on Di Lin’s Offspring Tree were starting to fall.

Xiao Lingyu and Lei Jue were about to return to their own home. In addition to trying to squeeze new information out of Emperor Suron, they also wanted to flip through the books that Xiao Lingyu secretly saved as he searched Haweila Palace to see if there was anything important they had missed that might revive Di Lin. But Zuo Feng insisted for Lei Jue and Pipi to help provide life energy to Di Lin’s Offspring Tree, so they ended up staying.

Lei Jue wanted to tell Zuo Feng that if the tree host had died, the Offspring Tree would die as well, and no amount of life energy they provided would change that fact. But the way Zuo Feng wanted to leave something behind to prove that Di Lin had existed made it impossible for Lei Jue to tell him.

“We can’t keep going on like this. Could the origin wood that mom left behind have any special hints?” Xiao Lingyu saw how Zuo Feng was acting and couldn’t bear it anymore.

“Nothing. I’m trying to consider if I should have Pipi pee on Uncle’s origin wood. His pee has the ability to revive things and even make floor planks sprout, so maybe Uncle’s origin wood can…” Lei Jue paused, “If nothing else, at least it’ll have some memory fragments just like mom’s origin wood. At least that will give Zuo Feng something to hang on to. After all, if the tree host is dead, the Offspring Tree will eventually wilt.”

“Let’s ask Zuo Feng tomorrow,” Pipi was asleep, and if they woke him up to pee, the little brat will definitely not cooperate and might even cause things to go boom.

“What are we going to do about Emperor Suron? Has it been decided?” Even now, Lei Jue was filled with anger whenever he thought about the old bastard.

Not a lot of people knew about Emperor Suron trying to force him and Pipi out at the Bulacca City zoo, and the fact that Emperor Suron was still alive remained a secret. But Xiao Lingyu’s previous investigation into the royal family’s history at Haweila Palace had unearthed quite a few problems. The Golden Fruit Tree clan had been the strongest clan of wood natural ability users before and had been forced to leave Casweir. That was all due to the royal family, and someone had to pay the price.

Xiao Zhicheng had personally delivered the results of Xiao Lingyu’s investigation to the Parliament. Naturally, Xiao Zhicheng wanted to publicize the royal family’s crimes and let everyone know why the natural ability users of Casweir were getting weaker and weaker, why they weren’t advancing, and why wood natural ability users were getting fewer and fewer. He also wanted everyone to know why his oldest grandson had a sprout on his head and how strong the child was!

What had they lost by forcing the Golden Fruit Tree Clan off Casweir?

The Vice Party Leader was definitely guilty of abusing his powers and forming private alliances. He and Lei Jianying were both going to die, but what about Emperor Suron? Naturally, he’d face the same fate. After all, emperors and commoners were alike in the eyes of the law, much less a king without power.

“The Parliament has already voted on a public trial, so the royal family is about to be finished. There won’t be a royal family in the future or a monarchy,” Xiao Lingyu said, “It’s been decided but it’s going to be tricky to carry out. After all, we still need to figure out who were accessories to the crimes and who are innocent. And also figure out what to do with the rest of the royal family.”

“So we need to hand the guy over?” Lei Jue frowned slightly, clearly in disapproval.

“No, he has to die under my watch,” Xiao Lingyu answered, “But there’s a slight problem right now. Party Leader Li made a motion during the session to send someone to bring the Golden Fruit Tree Clan back. Though this hasn’t been decided yet, quite a few people aren’t voicing their objections.”

“They really have no shame. Why do they need to come back just because someone wants them back? Shouldn’t they ask for what they want first? Besides, if Uncle was still alive, he’d definitely not want anyone to disturb our clan’s people. Also, can they even find the entrance? He makes it sound like he can.” If it really was that easy to find, Emperor Suron wouldn’t have done what he did at the zoo.

Xiao Lingyu didn’t say anything in response to Lei Jue’s comment. But if the proposal passes, Parliament will definitely come find Lei Jue. After all, if anyone could open the door on Meikalun that leads to the Golden Fruit Tree clan lands, it would have to be Lei Jue.

As soon as Lei Jue woke up the next day, he dragged his entire family over to see Zuo Feng. Despite the whole peeing thing being pretty inelegant, but what if? What if Uncle can really be brought back to life?

Xiao Lingyu had already made a deal with Pipi that if Pipi needed to pee, he wouldn’t pee anywhere but the little tree that was granduncle. So he didn’t give Pipi a diaper.

Pipi had immediately and cheerfully responded with a “ya!” as if he really understood. But when Lei Jue finally convinced Zuo Feng, the brat refused to pee!

“Good boy, pee, can’t you pee?” Xiao Lingyu had both hands under Pipi’s elbows so the child could stand by the pot with Di Lin in it.

“Would this really work?” Zuo Feng’s expression was a multitude of emotions. Though the intention was to save his lover, getting a child to pee on his lover’s body to revive his lover was still pretty crazy when he really thought about it.

“Pipi has the ability to make flowers bloom and also the ability to revive things. The latter is because of this –” Lei Jue pointed at his son’s penis and continued, “he doesn’t show it to just anyone, okay?” Lei Jue squeezed Pipi’s ears, “Pipi, pee. Pee, and you get candy.”

Pipi looked down at his tiny penis and then, under the watchful and expectant eyes of every adult on the scene, finally peed all over Di Lin’s origin wood.

Zuo Feng frowned, but his eyes never left Di Lin’s origin wood.

Xiao Lingyu and Lei Jue were the same; they stared intently at the wood. But strangely, it didn’t sprout.

To say they were disappointed would be a lie, but Zuo Feng didn’t say anything. He waited quietly for half an hour and when he realized that “Di Lin” showed no signs of change, took him into the bathroom. He was planning on giving “Di Lin” a bath and then replanting him into a new nutrient soil, but Lei Jue stopped him.

“It’s only been half an hour. Don’t wash it off so soon. Give it a night,” Lei Jue’s eyes held no trace of this being a joke. The floorboard growing grass had left too much of an impression on him.

“Fine,” Zuo Feng thought about it and set aside his feelings of disgust and heartache, and put the flower pot down.

Xiao Lingyu and Lei Jue, upon seeing that Zuo Feng wouldn’t wash off Pipi’s “fertilizer,” went to flip through the ancient texts stolen out of Haweila Palace. The couple flipped through them during the day and during the night, to the point where their eyes became bloodshot and found nothing new aside from some techniques on how to level up natural elemental user powers.

“Babe, could your instinct be off this time?” Xiao Lingyu pressed a hand against this temple, “Can Uncle really come back from the dead?”

“Yes, absolutely yes. I don’t have the feeling of having lost a relative, and that’s not normal,” Lei Jue focused on flipping through the books again and again, but to no avail. He found nothing new. so he organized the books and set them aside, “What was different about that day and today? I’m talking about the day Pipi soaked the floorboard and made them sprout seedlings again.”

“Different? It was night then,” Xiao Lingyu answered, “I don’t think anything else was different?”

“Then we’ll try again tomorrow night?” Lei Jue said, “We’ll see what happens tonight. If nothing happens, we’ll try again tomorrow night.”

“You sure? If nothing happens. I think Zuo Feng would shout us to death,” Xiao Lingyu thought about Zuo Feng’s disappointed expression and was actually a bit afraid to try again.

“We’ll see tomorrow,” Lei Jue frowned and walked into the bathroom.

At the same time, Zuo Feng also walked into the bathroom. But he didn’t know that very soon after he went inside, something happened in the pot.

A tiny tree person hurriedly pulled its roots out of the flower pot, jumped onto the ground, and started dry heaving!

F*ck me f*ck me! They actually soaked me with pee aaaaaahhhh! F*cking reviving me from the dead! How am I supposed to make a handsome entry while stinking of pee?!

Di Lin shook his leaves, and in the end, he couldn’t take the image of trying to comfort his lover while there was still a child’s pee on him. With all of his might, he rushed out of the room on his stubby legs and into the clear pool of water inside the ecosphere.
