Chapter 89 – A Fake Child

Mount Mao, less than 500 kilometers away from Bulacca City, was normally deserted. But recently the place was getting a bit noisy. More precisely, it was getting noisy inside the tallest peak of Mount Mao.

It wasn’t even dawn yet when people started travelling back and forth from the mountain peak. About a third of them were a mixture of men and women with varying degrees of beauty. They wore blue, sterile gowns. The other two-thirds wore the same black battle uniform, and stood guard with weapons in their hands. Some chatted with those in the sterile gowns.

The people wearing the sterile gowns seemed like doctors and also like biologists. Everyone had their own workroom and everyone had their own “patient.”

In examination room two, the patient moved his arm and then gently placed his hand on a little machine that was letting out strong currents of electricity. He placed his hand there for a long time but never drew it back. Then he smiled at the young “doctor” and remarked, “Now it’s perfect. I don’t feel any discomfort at all.”

At that, the young “doctor” seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. Just as when he was about to say “congratulations,” a skinny, old man walked toward him from the outside. The old man’s hair was going white and he walked very slowly, but his eyes were sharp.

“Sir –” The young doctor immediately stood up and looked a bit fearfully at the newcomer. “Sir, you’re here.”

“Hmm, what’s going on? Has the mission I assigned been completed?” The skinny man glanced at the “patient” in front of the young doctor, “Is this the result of the upgrade?”

“Yes, Sir. Patient one is completely insulated. As long as he’s not injured in battle, any electric attack cannot damage his body.” The young man said as he turned on the testing equipment and attacked the muscular man with strong currents of electricity. The man, as described, was completely insulated.

“Very nicely done, but we’re on a tight schedule so some things need to be tightened up.” With that, Emperor Suron didn’t linger and instead turned around to find someone else. The two people watched him enter a new room and fear flashed across their eyes.

Emperor Suron had adopted a new face by now. Though that face looked as old as he did, its features were completely changed so that aside from a few trusted individuals, nobody knew his real identity. But, that didn’t change the fear they held for him.

The two people jerked back to attention and started busying themselves with work, terrified that a moment of carelessness would cost them their lives.

In another place was another private laboratory also working on a technical problem but with a more relaxed air.

Xiao Lingshu looked at the skin for his “fake nephew” that his older brother had made from bio-molecules and had to hand it to his older brother. After putting the skin on a pseudo-skeleton, it was just the same as a real child! Even he, the child’s uncle, couldn’t tell that this was fake.

Xiao Lingqi was very satisfied with his work. He adjusted a few details and said, “The more lifelike it is, the more advantageous it is for Lingyu and Jue. So I’ve really given this my all. Hopefully, the old geezer can’t tell.”

“He shouldn’t be able to. Judging by the appearance, this looks exactly like the real Pipi.” Xiao Lingshu was normally calm, and things rarely surprised him, but this time he was utterly taken aback. He hadn’t considered that his older brother had gotten so miraculously skilled at making human skin.

“So many years of biology research and I couldn’t help Lingyu any. That had been frustrating. I never thought that I’d be able to help him like this.” Xiao Lingyu then closely examined his fake nephew, who had its eyes closed, and made sure nothing else needed to be changed. Then, he stripped off the layer of skin.

Both brothers had an odd look on their faces.

That felt… like stripping the skin off their nephew. Disgusting!

But in order for the little robot that wore the human skin to actually move, Lingyu had to import his technology.

“We’ll carry them separately to attract less attention.” Xiao Lingqi picked up several bags and then placed the skin and the disassembled pseudo-skeleton into three separate bags before handing one over to Xiao Linghsu.

“This feels really weird.” Xiao Linghsu accepted his fake nephew’s bones and frowned slightly. He had personally made the skeleton according to the size and density measurements he had taken. He hadn’t felt anything when he brought it over, but after his brother placed the layer of skin over it, the parts now felt like they were coal in his hands.

“Let’s go,” Xiao Lingqu gestured at the door with his chin. and the two left the lab.

Xiao Lingshu generally came back pretty frequently and usually lived at home when he wasn’t busy. So it wasn’t strange to see him at the family home. But Xiao Lingqi was different. This was a workaholic scientist who lived in his lab, which meant him coming back with his brother was pretty remarkable, especially for the team of four who hadn’t seen him since they joined the household, and for Di Lin and Zuo Feng.

So when the two of them disembarked from their flightcraft, the group of young men who were digging into the armed forces while pretending to barbeque were caught off guard.

“Lingshu and Lingqi, long time no see,” It was Lu Xian who recovered first and he asked with a smile, “Have you eaten yet? Care to  join us?”

“You guys go ahead. Where’s Linyu?” Xiao Lingqi asked.

“Lingyu and Lei Jue are still in their room,” Qi Yu answered.

Xiao Lingqi nodded and stretched out a hand toward Xiao Lingshu, “Give me the thing and you go eat with them. I’ll be out in a second.”

Xiao Lingshu replied, “We’ll go together. I have to wash my hands anyway.”

Neither brother returned to their own room and, instead, went to Xiao Lingyu and Lei Jue’s room. They walked in and placed the things on the coffee table before going to give their hands a quick wash. When they returned, they quietly sat down across from their brother and his partner.

Mostly it was because the three kids were asleep.

It was hot, and the three chubby kids wore jerseys that barely covered their butt as they slept, each more deeply than the next. Qiuqiu was the quietest of them all, and her sleeping position was the most proper. She slept on her back and didn’t randomly move. Kangkang slept on his side, and his drool created wet spots on the pillow. As for Pipi… he slept in a funny position. His face laid against the tiny pillow on its side, and he had his hands on either side of his face. His butt was lifted in the air like a piglet rooting for food.

Xiao Lingshu chuckled for a while and said, “Now they all look like angels.”

Xiao Lingyu nodded, “When they wake up there’s only one angel.”

Xiao Lingqi grabbed the things they set aside and said as he opened the bags, “I’ll give you another one.” With that, he worked together with Xiao Lingshu and then quickly assembled their fake nephew.

Xiao Lingyu and Lei Jue watched with admiration in their eyes. At the same time, they also felt a little weird, especially Xiao Lingyu. He repeatedly glanced between their sleeping and breathing son in the crib and the fake one, who had its eyes closed but looked like the real one fast asleep…

The only difference was that the fake one couldn’t breathe yet.

“The rest is up to you,” Xiao Lingqi patted Xiao Lingyu’s shoulder, “I’m going to grab something to eat with your Lingshu.”

“Sure,” Xiao Lingyu touched the “sleeping” fake son on the coffee table. The child’s oldest uncle had given the child skin and flesh; the second uncle had given the child bones, which left the child’s dad, aka him, to give the kid a brain. A nervous system that would perfectly merge with the brain and control the flesh that his oldest brother had made and the bones that his second oldest brother had made.

“Why not have Carrera pretend?” Lei Jue asked, “Wouldn’t that be faster? And Carrerra should be able to play Pipi well according to your instructions, right?”

“I have something else in mind for Carerra, so we’d have to do it this way anyway. But luckily, I already have a plan,” Xiao Lingyu pinched Lei Jue’s earlobes, “I’m going to bring something for us to eat. What do you want?”

“Anything,” Lei Jue turned around and gave Xiao Lingyu’s fingertips a small lick. “Whatever you get, I’ll eat.”

Xiao Lingyu coughed and then asked with a cheeky smile, “You sure?”

“Nothing reproductive system related, thanks,” Lei Jue thought for a moment and then added.

“Tch, can’t you leave me with some anticipation?” Xiao Lingyu said as he walked out.

Lei Jue looked outside the window and found the tall figure taking over his entire vision. He laughed without a reason just when Xiao Lingyu turned around as if he sensed it. Xiao Lingyu used his hands to make an extremely perverted gesture: he made a circle with his left index finger and thumb and then stabbed his right index finger through repeatedly.

Xiao Lingyu sometimes felt that he was a bit perverted, but then again, he thought this was his love for Lei Jue. He loved Lei Jue regardless of the location and what was going on around them.

Lei Jue waved a hand and gestured for Xiao Lingyu to go grab food, so Xiao Lingyu continued walking. Lei Jue’s gaze then fell upon Zuo Feng, who was approaching Xiao Lingyu.

The interstellar police didn’t come to find Zuo Feng. Though that didn’t make sense, it did, to some extent, prove one thing: Emperor Suron knew that Zuo Feng was with the Xiaos.

Because he knew, he didn’t have anyone come find Zuo Feng despite Zuo Feng being with them for days. Clearly, Emperor Suron wanted Zuo Feng to see as much as possible so he could get more information on the Xiaos when he got around to investigating Zuo Feng.

That was a nicely planned out scheme, but there were no free lunches in the world.

Lei Jue felt great at the thought of Emperor Suron going through all the trouble just to get a robot, but in the next second, his smile froze on his face.

His oldest son had just screwed something up again!

Lei Jue looked at the burnt feet and had to give it to his son. He might be small, but he could always create a huge mess if someone didn’t pay him any attention!

“Lingshu, Lingqi, can you take a look and see if it can be repaired?” Lei Jue asked, extremely embarrassed.

“It can. Thank goodness you discovered it so soon, or else it really would be too late.” Xiao Lingqi said as he walked out. He came back in with some repair materials, even for the bone. In order to avoid having Pipi re-electrocute his pretend sibling, they even intentionally avoided having Pipi see this one. After three days, the Xiaos had a new “child.”
