But Hao Yi was resentful of this.

He wasn’t incompetent — he was just lacking that bit of luck. The idol drama had ended up in them having a love triangle fan pairing, and he had released a music single. Criticism had come, saying he was not a good singer. This wasn’t his fault, though. His specialisation was acting!

And so, Luo Tong had withdrawn resources for him after seeing that he wasn’t popular enough, and given them to Yu Rui and the other person instead. Because of this lack of resources, he had been unable to increase his popularity. His popularity also decided the resources he would get, so it was a vicious cycle. Yu Rui and the other person had become more and more popular, and moved up to be almost classed as A-listers, but Hao Yi was stuck as a B-lister. His ranking would have dropped lower if it weren’t for the previous collaboration he’d had.

Now, Luo Tong was done for. Another company? Pfft. Managers in his own company didn’t want to take him.

Where would his future path lie?

Hao Yi looked silently out the window as the mockery rang in his ears. He felt like it was the end of the road for his career as a celebrity. He could resent it, or not give up, but what could he do if he had no opportunities?

Right at that moment, a piece of the latest news on Weibo caught his attention. He tapped on the headline and was stunned by Song Yucheng’s MLM marketing approach.

“Pfft. Xie Qianchen is a really weird manager. He’s so shameless.” But he abruptly fell silent.

‘Peak of your life’? ‘Big star’? What seductive words. Just hearing them made one waver. He had dreams like that too when he’d joined the industry. But now…

Heavy sorrow from the past weighed on Hao Yi again. The resentment in him bubbled up, becoming a best which tore out of its cage and entrapped him. Crazy thoughts popped into his head and bounced about.

‘You’re a B-lister. Why not try going to him?’

‘It’s better to fight than to give up!’

‘Xie Qianchen’s already put it that way. You have no other way to go. Why not go to him?’

Could he? Really? Would Xie Qianchen be willing to take him? Various thoughts crashed together in a jumble in Hao Yi’s head. His body, however, reacted more quickly than his brain. His fingers typed out a message to Xie Qianchen: Brother Xie, do I qualify?

Oh sh*t! Hao Yi wanted to delete his private message as soon as he realised what he’d done, but Xie Qianchen’s immediate response gave him no chance to withdraw. Hao Yi read the reply from Xie Qianchen.

“No problem, as long as you’re obedient.”

So… Was he now his manager? Xie Qianchen had not even asked any questions, and accepted him just like that! Was such a sloppy confirmation really not a joke?

For some reason Hao Yi could not understand, his unsettled thoughts calmed when he read Xie Qianchen’s reply. He had a feeling that he would actually be able to realise his dream under Xie Qianchen’s management.

He turned his head to look at Yu Rui’s smug face, and the gloom which had shrouded him earlier melted away.

Ha! He couldn’t find an interested party? Well, even if Xie Qianchen was not reliable, Picture Domain had lots of resources to spend on him. What remained was hard work on his own part, and the result would definitely not be bad.

With those thoughts in mind, Hao Yi packed up as Xie Qianchen had instructed, and quietly left Double Universe. His new life was finally about to begin.

Hao Yi had made his decision. On Song Yucheng’s end, however, the System was looking at Hao Yi’s data and it didn’t understand Song Yucheng’s decision.

“Milord, I know this is a special situation, but this Hao Yi is too…” The System hemmed and hawed but could not come up with an appropriate word to describe it. Bai Siwei was popular, and also had some acting skills. But it didn’t make sense for Hao Yi! He had got to his position by riding on the coattails of others. No wonder people looked down on him. Even Hao Yi’s own fans said that he had been lucky to get famous because of his friends’ popularity.

Song Yucheng just chuckled as he shook his head. “It’s more interesting this way. I don’t think Hao Yi lacks talent either. Have you heard of a certain type of person?”

“What person?” The System was curious.

“The type that seems talentless, has no special skills, no connections, and is destined to not get any attention, but is still able to keep breathing and follow the pace of the big pack to stay in the middle group. Everyone says he’s lucky, but that might not be it.”

“I don’t follow.”

“Let me break it down for you.” Song Yucheng was used to his System’s brainlessness now. “From the public’s perspective, Hao Yi possesses none of the characteristics of a star. But one year after their group disbanded, he’s still ranked as a B-lister after evaluation. What does this tell us?”

“What does it tell us? [DoubtfulFace.jpg]” The System didn’t understand, and felt that Milord’s explanation was very complicated.

“. . .”

Song Yucheng had no words. He went on with his explanation. “Okay, if Hao Yi is the type who really has nothing great about him, then how did he maintain his popularity in the entire year he’d gone without any advertising jobs? He had no major roles either.”

“Th, There’s this sort of thing?” The System was stunned.

“Of course.” The smile on Song Yucheng’s lips deepened. “How can a truly weak person survive in the entertainment industry? This Hao Yi guy is interesting. I want him.”

And so he gave a call to the legal department and asked them to deliver a new contract over. He was going to sign Hao Yi on.

Song Yucheng now had two B-listers. He needed one more to meet the requirements. He had plans for this last one, and he wanted to meet him personally.

This person was a former idol group vocalist who was labelled a ‘traitor’ and ‘ingrate’. The owner of the company this former vocalist was the third person he was going to get revenge on. He was the person who had taken the lead in destroying Han Feiran — Ding Mingcheng.

And so the bell rang for the second round of vengeance.
